8th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TROPICAL RESOURCES AND SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE
From Climate Risk to Urban Resilience:
Building Sustainable Cities for the Future
Welcome to the 8th Conference on Tropical Resources and Sustainable Sciences (CTReSS 8.0), an international platform dedicated to advancing knowledge and collaboration in sustainable resource management, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability.
Organised by the Faculty of Earth Science, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, CTReSS has been held since 2014 as a forum that brings together academics, researchers, industry practitioners, and policymakers working across disciplines related to tropical environments. Over the years, the conference has grown into a recognised space for meaningful dialogue, enabling participants to share research findings, exchange ideas, and explore practical solutions to contemporary environmental challenges.
CTReSS 8.0 will be held on 7-8 September 2026 as a fully virtual conference, allowing broader participation from both local and international communities. This year’s theme, “From Climate Risk to Urban Resilience: Building Sustainable Cities for the Future,” reflects the increasing need to address climate-related risks through integrated approaches that connect environmental science, urban planning, and technological innovation.
The conference aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and support the development of science-based and practical strategies for sustainable development, particularly within tropical regions. Participants will engage in discussions covering biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, sustainable urban systems, environmental governance, and data-driven approaches to resource management.
Through CTReSS 8.0, we continue to strengthen connections between research, policy, and practice, contributing to ongoing efforts to build resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities. To maintain the standards of the conference, all accepted papers are published in SCOPUS indexed publication.
Conference Theme, Scope and Objectives
From Climate Risk to Urban Resilience:
Building Sustainable Cities for the Future
This theme reflects the growing urgency to address climate-related risks through integrated approaches that connect environmental science, urban planning, and technological innovation. As cities expand and environmental pressures intensify, there is an increasing need for solutions that are both scientifically grounded and practically implementable.
The conference brings together diverse areas of expertise to explore sustainability challenges and solutions within tropical and urban contexts. Key areas of focus include biodiversity conservation, sustainable urban development, climate change adaptation, environmental governance, geospatial and digital technologies, and risk management. Through this integrated scope, CTReSS 8.0 aims to:
-
Advance knowledge exchange on sustainable resource management and climate resilience
Providing a platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to share findings, insights, and innovative approaches addressing environmental challenges in both tropical ecosystems and urban environments. -
Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration linking science, policy, and industry practice
Encouraging collaboration across sectors to bridge the gap between research and implementation, supporting the development of practical, science-based solutions for sustainable cities and resilient communities.
International Outreach
CTReSS has established a growing international presence, with previous editions attracting participants from countries including Austria, China, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
For CTReSS 8.0, the conference targets at least 30% international participation, supported by strategic outreach through international academic partners, research networks, and invited speakers. The conference is further strengthened by ongoing collaboration linked to a climate change research initiative involving Universiti Malaysia Kelantan and Perak State Parks Corporation with generous funding from the European Commission.
The fully virtual format also enhances global accessibility, enabling broader participation and facilitating cross-border exchange of knowledge, perspectives, and collaborative opportunities in sustainability and climate resilience.
